Speedwatch
Members of improving our place have joined other local residents in being among the first to be trained by the Met Police in the use of speed guns.
Following a vote at a Fox Lane Residents Association a few years ago there was a unanimous agreement that traffic on residential streets was going too fast. This feeling is not unusual and can be seen reflected in other bodies such as Ward priorities under the CAPE scheme.
One result of this widespread feeling has been the decision by the Met to train residential volunteers across the capital to assist them in their efforts to reduce speed on our streets in keeping with the legal limit. Enfield is one of several Boroughs now operating this scheme.
Trained volunteers will work in pairs alongside a Police Officer on roads suggested by the community and which have been agreed by traffic experts as having a speeding problem and are safe for speed gun operations.
No volunteers will man their own roads and volunteers will not issue speeding tickets however a warning letter will be sent by the Police and if problems persist then a Police team will be sent to the road at which time speeding tickets could be issued.
Several local roads have been suggested and assessed and will be subject to speed gun monitoring over the coming weeks and months. If you would like to be trained and suggest a road then contact:
