Palmers Green Shopping Area Regeneration and Improvement Questionnaire
Post updated: 12 Jan 2012
After several joint meetings involving Palmers Green residents and the Green Lanes Business Association Enfield Council have agreed a long term objective to work together in partnership to make Palmers Green Town Centre a better place.
In tough, financially constrained times, this is a welcome commitment and one that reflects a long overdue focus on our place. We now need to take full advantage because five year commitments seeking to regenerate and improve an area do not occur too often; so let’s make the most of it!
Our Council will be undertaking various background studies to inform planning. For our part they ask that as many people and businesses as possible now get involved in firstly suggesting exactly what aspects the improvement work should address.
WE NOW NEED YOUR IDEAS
The area currently being considered runs along Green Lanes from the Hedge Lane junction to the Library / Town Hall junction and up Aldermans Hill as far as the park gates, including the Triangle.
We believe that the area can be a much better place in which to live, work and study. It can be an area with a higher quality of life, a cleaner, healthier and more attractive environment, a stronger local economy, a better standard of infrastructure and improved public services.
We now need to determine exactly how to go about achieving this objective. All ideas will be welcomed and considered by a working group. To assist your thinking we have developed some questions which capture major topics but feel free to comment on any and all issues which are important to you. Your input will be appreciated.
Thank you

The questions and areas which may help to guide your response include:
- What do you think is good about the area?
- What do you think is less good about the area?
- What would you like to see to improve the area?
There are some very specific aspects which people have already mentioned. You may wish to include your own views on them:
- Traffic (its speed; congestion; its influence on pedestrians)
- Parking (cost; availability; location)
- Clutter (railings, posts, signs and the like)
- The look of the shops and the general architecture of the buildings
- The type and range of shops; how to attract more people and keep them in the area longer
- The amount and use of pavement space
- The Triangle public space
- Greenery including flower planters
