Big Lunch 2011

Welcome to our campaign to facilitate participation in the national, summer street party and community get-together: The Big Lunch – which as you can see from the image above is this year to be held on Sunday, June 5th.   The Big Lunch is rapidly gaining popularity throughout the UK, and Improving Our Place has high hopes of bettering our 2010 first year performance of six participating streets in and around Palmers Green.  Already thousands of leaflets publicizing the event and funded by our sponsor: Estate Agent anthony pepe & co have been delivered door-to-door with more to come.  By the end of this phase of the campaign we expect to have reached around 7,000 homes.

So what’s so special?  Well, the idea was dreamt up by the Eden Project in Cornwall, and, as Tim Smit, Chief Executive, put it: “Our aim was for people to get out on their street, raise a glass and share a bite with their neighbours…”   And it’s a national event, shared in 2010 by more than a million people and supported by Government at every level, which means that almost anyone in the country is able to participate, either in their own street or by joining a Big Lunch in a nearby street.  Quite simply it’s a fantastic way to harness a summer’s day by stilling the traffic for a few hours, meeting the neighbours, and having fun.
